You can learn so much from failing, as painful as it is, and I think this blog post is a great reminder of that. So many of us focus on success (and what is that really?) that we lose sight of the importance of life, the lessons we learn from everything, good and bad. I love and agree with Andrea's stepdad, who said "If you're not falling down, you're ready for a more challenging slope." We nee to be challenged in life. Think of how boring it would be if we got everything we wanted all the time and did nothing but succeed! (Okay, that sounds great, but, really, I bet we would all hate it.)

FYI - I posted a link to your blog on my blog today. I wrote a post about motivation and I find your blog very motivating and inspiring!

As my stepdad used to say when I was learning to ski, "If you're not falling down, you're ready for a more challenging slope."

Nice bits of wisdom. I'd add, without failure they cannot be innovation.

It's the willingness to keep applying yourself, in spite of failure, (or as Rob said, lessons) to produce something that is really great.

I try not to think in terms of failure - I offer three thoughts:

1. There are no failures, only lessons.
2. Failure is the price of ambition.
3.The only failure in life is the failure to try.

Agreed! It will make things all that much sweeter. God only knows how much money and time I've put into learning the "best practice" for ageing wine and Puerh Cha. I dread to count the number of failures along the way but made it there in the end )
