Newsweek, The Week, PC Magazine, PC World, Family Handyman, Workbench, Smithsonian, National Geographic, Prevention, Sunset, Vanity Fair, Discover, Scientific American, Wired, Cook’s Illustrated, ReadyMade, Biblical Archaeology Review.

Yes, I read them all. And the Los Angeles Daily News. And anywhere from three to ten books a week, too, courtesy of the public library. Reading is the first line of defense in taking a stand against ignorance!

The New Yorker is the only one I read religiously. Insightful commentary, good fiction and great cartoons.

Oh — and the NY Sunday Times magazine. I’m working my way to The Economist on several friends’ recommendations.

Macleans and Home Theater Magazine are the only paper-based mags I read.

I read a ton online and cancelled paper-based subscriptions to Windows IT Pro, Discover and Scientific American because I can find enough of their content online.

The Week, Kiplinger’s Finance, Budget Travel, MacWorld, Scientific American, Science Illustrated. The first 4 I read as soon as they hit. Sci-fi mags — SFWA Bulletin, F&SF, Locus, Realms of Fantasy. Apex and Baen online. Letting Reason, the Wilson Quartery & Heavy Metal lapse. At one time I had over 2 dozen magazines coming in. Yikes. Thankfully I’ve culled it down a bit.

Real Simple, Yoga Journal, PC Magazine, Ode, Shambala Sun, Vegetarian Times, Natural Solutions, O, Nutrition Action Newsletter, ABA Journal, Res Gestae (the Indiana State Bar Association mag), Mother Jones, Reminisce

Even though I’m an avid reader of online content as well, I still love the paper magazines. I clip articles, post pics on my vision boards, tab great recipes or new yoga poses, etc. There’s something I like about the feel of the reading material in-hand–probably also why I can’t break out of the paper-book love either, even though I really like audio books and think Kindles are cool.

I love magazines because I can easily grab one for a bus ride and then toss it when I’m through, instead of having to commit to carrying a book around all evening.

I regularly read: New Yorker, Good, Ode, Plenty, Inc., Fast Company, Beer Advocate, and America’s First Freedom.

I see there is a danger in asking this question. I’ve just been reminded of a dozen publications I’d like to subscribe to. :)

  8. Simon Middleton (2 comments) says:

Fast Company and Brand Strategy are the only regular ones of any note, with occasional forays into car mags every couple of years. I usewd to read Management Today, Marketing, Marketing Week and Campaign. But started to suffer from info overload. Now I focus on books.

I am reading the German weekly newspaper Die Zeit as well as Zeit Wissen, a bi-monthly science magazine. Apart from that, I have unsubscribed from all other paper magazines as I get what I need online as RSS or paid newsletters.

As a geek that would like to consume everything electronically, I have more dead tree arriving every month than I would like:
Wired, Linux Journal, GQ, Esquire, ReadyMade, Mental Floss (those last two are only 6 per year) I also read InsideOut (interior design mag my parents subscribe to).

had to drop a lot of subscriptions, its just too much (dropped: Dr. Dobb’s, Details, MacWorld, Oracle, Men’s Health, Inc.)

I would really like all the magazines available in Kindle edition, would make it easier to read, and give me a real reason to buy a kindle. (would also like to see Manga on there, but thats another thing entirely)

Kiplinger Newsletter, Kiplinger Personal Finance, New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, Car and Driver, Time, Newsweek, Fast Company, Golf

    What is mind?

  13. Ryan (6 comments) says:

I read Wired, Scuba Diving, Muscle and Fitness, 2600, PC Magazine, and every so often I flip through a People.

Forgot to mention that when we’re done with the magazines we cut our address label off and put them in a bag. Whenever one of us has a doctor’s appointment we take the bag and donate the magazines to the waiting room.

  15. Mark Shead (659 comments) says:

@Shai – Mind is a magazine by Scientific American.

  16. Brian Ogilvie (2 comments) says:

Good question! My current list of print subscriptions:

Dailies: New York Times, Daily Hampshire Gazette (local paper)

Weeklies or biweeklies: Economist, Nation, New Yorker, Chronicle of Higher Education, New York Review of Books

Monthlies or bi-monthlies: Cook’s Illustrated, Yankee (gift), Foreign Affairs

Quarterlies, more or less: Academe (publication of the AAUP), Hedgehog Review, American Legacy, and about half a dozen scholarly journals in my field.

I don’t usually read everything cover to cover, but I skim the whole issue and read articles that interest me.

  17. Dave Ross (2 comments) says:

The only dead tree magazine I bother with anymore is the Communications of the ACM. Everything else is electronic.

  18. Lianna (2 comments) says:

I subscribe to Science News, a brief, weekly roundup of notable research and discoveries from the publishers of Science, Dirt Rag, a mountain biking magazine, and the ubiquitous National Geographic.

I subscribe to Macworld, Metro Home, and The National Horseman, as well as my local weekly paper, which is available online as well. (I read bits of the nearly-local daily online, but the site is so graphics heavy it’s discouraging.)

  21. Rob D (4 comments) says:

Money Magazine, WSJ.com, BusinessWeek, Fast Company, Outside, East Hampton Star

  22. Anne A. (1 comments) says:

I subscribe to Cooking Light, Health and the New Yorker and I pick up Real Simple and Texas Monthly from time to time. Everything else I read online, but my guilty pleasure is spending at least a half hour in the bath every morning drinking coffee and reading the New Yorker, cover to cover. It’s a luxurious way to start the day.

  23. Lars D (1 comments) says:

    I don’t subscribe to magazines… I don’t have the time. I read blogs like this, instead :-)

  24. John Maddocks (1 comments) says:

    I read:

    Macworld

  25. Mandar Vaze (15 comments) says:
