It is even scarier to realize that 42% of people never pick up a book after having graduated from college. (Yes, that is college–not high school.) People don’t seem to understand (or care) that to grow requires continually investing in yourself. I finished in September and am working part time in the field right now while working toward licensure. I found Capella to be very flexible for my needs being online I was able to do the work in my time during the week and not have to have a set time to be in class. It worked very well for me and with the program being CACREP accredidted, it fits most states requirements, mine being Wisconsin.

I also recently graduated from Capella <a

I have talked with folks at the dept. of prof. regulation who have assured me several times that the CACREP accreditation of Capella's mental health counseling program will make the application process go smoothly. No one else in my cohort (from Maine, Oregon, Washington State, Arizona, Texas, Montanna, South Carolina) indicated having any trouble to date. But every state is different, so it's worth checking into before investing in a degree that might not work where you are.

I have yet to get licensed in Illinois where I live (just graduated in Sept., took the NCE in Oct., should get the grade back any day). I've heard of people having problems with state licensure when coming from Capella. What state are you licensed in and did you have any problems getting it?

I’m glad to hear that you had a good experience with Capella. Capella is definitely not a diploma mill. The texts were up-to-date, the courses were run by PhDs, and I spent more hours per course than I ever did at a traditional school. My fieldwork supervisor indicated a pleasant surprise in the level of organization and communication provided by Capella. It wasn't cheap, but it the advantages outweighed the costs for me.

I also recently made a career change to counseling, aided by completing a <a

The only way I could do this was to get my master's degree online. My corporate job had required me to travel a great deal and the only way to attend classes was to sign on to my computer and get the job done online. Capella University offered me an amazing program and I immediately had an offer to for a job in my new career and I have also established a private practice. The online education program at Capella was rigorous but perfectly flexible for my demanding schedule. I loved it and would recommend it to everyone!

I made a major career change from a marketing executive at a major medical device firm to become a psychotherapist / counselor. I would love to see this topic expanded even more to include: specific certifications / degrees / study areas that are becoming valuable -- PMP is something I've recently looked into for example.

Great post, thanks for sharing.

I would love to see this topic expanded even more to include: specific certifications / <a
