re: dumping stuff from the overhead - actually, if you tell the flight attendant they can grab the stuff and check it into the luggage compartment if no one steps up to claim it. They got tired of folks doing exactly that and having the front seat passengers. So instead of saving time, now your bag is checked into the luggage compartment and you might not even know it!

I agree with all the mentioned suggestions. Checking in online always saves time. Additionally, I always try to bring layers of clothes since planes tend to be cold and a neck pillow.

@Gary - Where would you dump it? Just in the middle of the aisle?

@Evan - Good point. If it takes a long time to get your shoes on and off you'll really slow things down in security.

"If you don’t need your luggage during the flight, simply placing it in the first available compartment can be a good strategy."

You put your stuff above my seat and then keep walking, when I get to my seat and there's no-one immediately there to claim it, your stuff *IS* getting pulled and dumped.

Wow! Awesome list. I think these are all things I've thought about, in a scattered manner, from time to time, but having them in one place is great. One other thing I do when I fly is wear a comfortable pair of shoes that are easy to get off and on.
