I just finished a fascinating book about how the longitude problem was solved.  It is amazing how much effort went into solving the problem.  I highly recommend the book.

I read that a few years ago. Thoroughly enjoyed it, cover to cover. Totally absorbed the frustrations of that family.

If you liked this book, read Carry On, Mr. Bowditch by Jean Lee Latham. It deals with the same problem. This book is a highly entertaining readable biography of the man who wrote the bible on American Navigation. It won the 1956 Newbery Medal for children’s literature but I loved it as an adult as much as when I read it as a teen.
