Most people will change careers several times in their life, so it is difficult to use college to directly prepare for your career. Think of how many problems the average person has with modern technology.  Things are just so complex that to someone unfamiliar with them, it can be difficult to change your thinking.  This video illustrates a new technology being introduced.  Take a look at it below.

Obviously I don’t think most monk’s had that much difficulty understanding the concept of a book.  So why are computers so difficult for some people to understand?  Is it because they are so much more complex?  Or is it because they are so abstract?

Either way, new technology is going to be even more complex and probably more abstract than what we have today.  If you are wanting to prepare, look for learning experiences that will stretch your ability to understand things that are abstract and complex.  These are the areas that will help the most as you encounter new things because they give your mind the tool set to handle more difficult tasks.
