@Infmom - I try to set all of my variable bills to be paid by credit card. Also, you can set variable bills to be paid some default amount a bit higher than what you expect them to be and then adjust down when the bill comes. That way if you miss it for some reason, the bill still gets paid on time.

@Elizabeth - I know Vonage lets you do this. You can even have them transcribe the message for you. Call Pilot (a popular voice mail system from Nortel) and 3Com's phone system does this as well. Also checkout Call Wave--they have some options to do this too.

"I have set my voice mail system to send me an email with the message attached as a .wav file whenever someone leaves me a message..."

How did you do this? I'm immensely curious because I actually have anxiety attacks dealing with voicemail (which, as you can imagine, is a little crippling), and this sounds like something really useful.

Couple thoughts...

Using automatic bill-pay makes sense for bills that are for the same amount each month, because you can then set those up in Quicken (or whatever) to be accounted for automatically. When the amount changes from month to month, you're going to have to log into extra web sites to find out the amount that's going to be deducted to pay the bill.

I use Firefox's bookmarks bar combined with the Smart Bookmarks Bar extension. That way I show only the favicon for each frequently visited site and can click on them to go where I want to go.
